Founding fathers

This section is dedicated to the founders of the Society, established in 1913. It is of significance to notice that in April of 2001, the Canadian Czechoslovak Benevolent Association will mark the 88th anniversary of its establishment. The Canadian Czechoslovak Benevolent Association is one of the eldest ethnically based organizations in Winnipeg. We wish to unveil its history, recognize its founders, and celebrate their contribution to the Winnipeg’s community and for us and our youth to reflect in the richness of our ethnic roots in Winnipeg.

We are looking for information about individuals who founded the Canadian Czechoslovak Benevolent Association in Winnipeg, in 1913. We are particularly interested in the names, biographies, and descendants. Please contact the webmaster with any information or lead you may have. To make this project succeed help of many will be required. Can you be one of them?

Members of the Society in 1919
Fortunately, we know more about this group of individuals. We have a list, in fact more than a list. At your next visit to the Club House at 154 Mckenzie Street in the Social Hall, take notice of a large framed collage of portraits. On closer look you will discover that it holds pictures of members of the Society at the time when the Hall was opened in 1919. While we have the names, it is just a beginning. We need to fill the puzzle with information about each individual. Do take a moment to review the list below and help us to research short background a family history of each.
